Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
