'Living a Nightmare': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Teens Await News After Ski Resort Blaze
The relatives of teenagers lost after a deadly inferno at a establishment in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and requesting clues about their loved ones publicly.
The fire devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Verified video show the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.
Authorities have stated that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the fire, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another 119. Authorities stated on Friday that the majority of the injured have been identified, with work still underway to locate the remaining few.
In the meantime, relatives have been taking to social media to appeal for information about their missing relatives who were present at the venue that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the same in the capital, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She continued that some of his companions had been found with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they experienced an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that six of its citizens are still unaccounted for.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, who hailed from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The national sporting body has said that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "talented young man who represented passion and true sportsmanship."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His parent said that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"A companion told me they fled after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
One of his educators said, "I've always been struck by his kindness and smile, alongside great responsibility. Often ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek nationality but lives permanently in the country, was also present on that night, according to media.
Her sibling has shared an appeal online, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her other nation say they are actively engaged with the case.
