Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with results like these.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
