Sweden Squad Reveal: Alexander Isak Included While Gyokeres Excluded
The striker signed with Arsenal from Sporting this summer
Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres has been omitted from the new manager's first Swedish national squad, while Reds striker Alexander Isak secured selection
Gyokeres is set for more medical tests this week following worries he sustained a hamstring injury in the Gunners's Premier League victory against Burnley last weekend
The 27-year-old was absent from the Gunners' European success versus Slavia Prague on Tuesday
Isak Makes Comeback
Isak, absent from action from late October due to muscle issues, was selected to play in the World Cup games versus the Swiss team (November 15th) plus the Slovenian side (18 November)
Additional Premier League Inclusions
- Tottenham midfielder the young talent, working his way back from concussion
- Newcastle wide player the Swedish international
These players were included in Potter's Premier League contingent chosen under ex- multiple English clubs manager Graham Potter
Potter's Appointment
Potter took over the Swedish federation initially temporarily on 20 October, under four weeks following his departure from the Hammers
Former manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was fired following Sweden's 1-0 loss to Kosovo in mid-October, an outcome that ended straight qualification from their World Cup group unattainable
Present Standing
Sweden are currently last place of their qualifying group having just one point in four matches
Even if they don't manage to claim the runner-up spot, there remains a chance they might take part in the secondary qualification due to thanks to their showing during the previous UEFA competition
