Trump Invites Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the White House.
He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid public safety in the capital.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” the principal, the leader of her former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general the attorney general informed a news show that she also intended to meet with the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
